Soul Reflections Tutorial
For this tutorial you will need:
PSP 10
A tube (a tall, narrow tube works best for this)
I used the artwork of
Jonathon Earl Bowser for this image, please visit his site for more of his beautiful work!
Funhouse Filters>ZigZaggerate
20/20 Mask
Gold Pattern Fill
Open your tube, duplicate and close the original.
Resize your tube so no side is larger than 400
Select 2 colors from your tube for your background gradient (similar colors - one light and one dark)
Set your gradient properties to Foreground/Background, Angle=0, Repeats=0, Linear, Invert not checked
Image>Canvas Size>1450 X height of your tube, left center placement
Add a new layer
Flood fill with the gradient
Effects>Image Effects>Seamless Tiling, default settings
Effects>Plugins>Funhouse>ZigZaggerate
Zig=72
Zag=72
Effects>Image Effects>Seamless Tiling> Mirror and Bi-directional
Layers>Arrange>Send to the bottom
Add a new layer
With the selection tool, create a column to the right of your tube about 25 wide (leaving enough room for your "reflection")
Flood fill with the Gold Pattern, Angle=0, Scale=100
Selections>Modify>Contract by 2
Flood fill with the dark color you used for your gradient
Selections>Select None
Select the Pick Tool(Raster Deform Tool in PSP 9) Stretch the column so no gold is showing on the top or bottom
Select your Selection Tool
Highlight your tube layer and select the area you would like to "reflect" - Do Not Select More than 25% of the Image as we will be resizing this selection - I strongly recommend a square selection
Edit>Copy
Edit>Paste as new image
Resize the new image to 125% of the original
Layers>Load Mask>20/20 mask, to fit canvas, show all mask, source luminance
Layers>Merge>Merge Group
Resize Masked image to 150% (if you have selected a wide portion of the tube, you may have to skip this step)
Edit>Copy
Back to the Original image
Selections>Select None
Edit>Paste as a new layer
Using the Mover Tool, position your masked tube
Lower the opacity of masked tube to 40-50%
Position the masked tube layer so it is under the original tube layer
Highlight the original tube layer and apply a drop shadow of your choice
Add a layer>Send to the top
Apply your watermark.
Export>JPEG Optimizer, 20-25% compression
Assemble in Letter Creator
